Ukrainian Fencing Federation announces a fundraising campaign for legal proceedings in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the District Court of Lausanne against the International Fencing Federation (FIE), which allowed athletes from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus to participate in international competitions.
We ask for your help to cover our expenses.
About us
We’re the home of fencing in Ukraine — supporting beginners, professional fencers, amateurs and anyone who loves this wonderful sport.
Ukrainian Fencing Federation has been the governing body of Ukrainian fencing since 1992.
Our mission is to grow and promote the sport of fencing in Ukraine, honor its rich traditions, achieve sustained competitive international excellence and develop international cooperation in the field of physical culture and sports.
Where do the funds go?
The Russian Federation with the active support of the Republic of Belarus is waging war against Ukraine. Due to the full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine at least 250 athletes and coaches have already died, 95 sports facilities were completely or partially destroyed. Another 248 sports facilities have suffered significant or partial damage.
Russian and Belarusian athletes, on the other hand, are willing to return to world sports. The International Fencing Federation (FIE) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions again, in particular in the selection for the Olympic Games.
Ukrainian Fencing Federation strongly condemns the decision of the FIE Congress. This decision was adopted with numerous violations of the FIE Statutes and the Olympic Charter.
Ukrainian Fencing Federation appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport with a view to cancel the decisions of the Extraordinary Congress of the FIE about the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
On 5 April 2023, Ukrainian Fencing Federation filed a claim with the District Court of Lausanne with a view to taking preventive measures in the form of suspension of the execution of the decision issued by the Extraordinary Congress of the FIE dated 10 March 2023 on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes, as well as officials of the Russian and Belarusian fencing federations, to participating in individual and group competitions and to further cancel these decisions. Swedish Fencing Federation and Finnish Fencing and Pentathlon Federation also joined the case on our side.
Participation in the legal process against the FIE requires large sums of money, which the Federation does not have enough due to the economic crisis of Ukraine caused by Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.
Only CAS requesting us to pay CHF 44 000 as an advance of costs.
Ukrainian Fencing Federation needs your financial support for the legal process against the illegal decision of the FIE.
